Dental Implants

Why Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a great option for replacing missing teeth. They can be used to replace single missing teeth, multiple missing teeth, and even to stabilize and support dentures when you are missing all of your teeth!

Some of the many advantages of dental implants include:

  • Independent of neighbouring teeth (no need to involve other teeth)
  • Esthetics
  • High predictability of success
  • Preservation of biology (dental implants are the only long term option to maintain the height and width of bone in the jaw after the loss of a tooth)

First developed in the 1960s, dental implants enjoy a success rate as high as 98%, and have become the standard of care to replace missing teeth. Made from a titanium alloy, dental implants are so biologically friendly, bone cells will grow right onto it. This essentially allows the dental implant to fuse with the jaw bone, through a process known as osteointegration. The result is a very solid, long lasting foundation upon which a tooth can be built without the need to place unnecessary stress on neighbouring teeth and this is the only tooth replacement option that preserves bone in the jaw.

I Have A Dental Implant, Now What?

Caring for a dental implant requires the same time and effort as caring for your own natural teeth. Plaque can build up around implants similar to natural teeth, so it is important to maintain your regular hygiene schedule for the health of your implant.
